Of Burgers & Birthdays

Yesterday I celebrated my 41st birthday.

As I mentioned in the previous post, I have not been feeling well lately, so it wasn't the greatest celebration of a birthday ever, but it was nice to sit around in my PJs, watching movies all day.  (This isn't something I would do every day, but it was a nice change from being at work.)

Also, as with every other birthday for the past I don't know how many years, I celebrated with a hamburger.  The only reason this is different than from past years is because it's the first hamburger I've had since July of last year.

I figured one burger a year is not going to kill me.

Since it was most likely the only one that I will have this year, I wanted it to be the best.  And, as is the case with most things, homemade beats anything at a restaurant.

I told my wife what toppings I wanted - tomato, red onion, barbecue sauce, sauteed mushrooms and Pepper Jack cheese - and decided to go with tater tots over fries.  It was the perfect dinner for my birthday and I enjoyed every single bite.  (Perhaps a little too much, since I stuffed myself silly.)

For dessert, I decided that I didn't want a cake and ice cream.  Mostly because I didn't want leftover cake hanging around the house, but also because I have kind of lost my taste for sugary things.  (Sad, I know.)

Instead, my wife bought a mini Marie Callender coconut cream pie.  It was the perfect amount of pie, although I made the mistake of looking at the calorie content.  (Way too much for the amount of pie I was eating.  Oh well, you only turn 41 once.)

As for turning 41, it really hasn't hit me yet.  Turning 40 was big, but 41 is just another year to me.  Sure, it may kick in later this week that I am on the downward slope, but for now, I will just keep on keeping on.
