The Next Episode

As we get closer to the New Year, I get closer to my resolutions.

They are usually the same every year: lose weight, read the entire Old Testament in Hebrew, speak Spanish more, get a new job.

Overall, I do quite well with them from January 2nd (who actually begins their resolutions on New Year's Day?) until about Martin Luther King Day (my first official holiday of the year).  Then I sleep in that one day and it's easier to hit snooze the next day until I have gone an entire week without doing any of those things.

This year will be different!  Well, at least in the weight loss realm.

First of all, I have proven to myself over the past five months that I can control my appetite for things I really love.  (Meat, candy, soda)

Second, I am turning 41 in February.  Elvis died at 42.  I don't want to think that I could be only one year away from dying.  (I realize that I could die tomorrow in a car accident., but I'm talking about dying from something I could've avoided.  And while I may not take the drugs that Elvis did, I do enjoy a fried peanut butter and banana sandwich.)

Third, I hate clothes shopping!  I have already gone down one size in my clothes and I refuse to go buy new clothes that are in a bigger size.

So here's to 2013.  The year I lose most of the weight I need to lose.
